What is FCE?

Everything you need to know if you want to take the FCE Exam in Palermo and its surroundings

Introduction

FCE stands for First Certificate in English. It represents the level B2 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This exam is for those who want to work or study abroad.

Why take FCE?

While preparing for this exam, you will develop language skills, you will be able to construct arguments and use appropriate communication styles for a variety of situations.

FCE assures the sufficient proficiency in English to work in various domains.
This exam also prepares candidates for higher-level exams, such as CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) and CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English).

What is the exam like?

Click here to read the offical PET page on the Cambridge ESOL website.

This is an upper-intermediate level exam, testing the abilities to manage everyday written and spoken communication.

The exam has five papers. The written exams are sent to Cambridge for marking and assessment. Two examiners accredited by Cambridge ESOL conduct the oral one.

On passing the tests you will receive a certificate awarded by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations and a statement of results, showing how you performed in each paper.

How do I prepare for it?

IH Palermo runs special exam courses, which train the candidates in all areas of the exam. IH Palermo also offers self access material for those not willing to join a class and preferring self study.

IH Palermo liaises with local state schools in the preparation of students and exam coordination.
