PET stands for Preliminary English Test. It is an International English Certification granted by the University of Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Department.
The PET has two formats: CB PET e PB PET.
CB PET (Computer Based Preliminary English Test) and PB PET (Paper Based Preliminary English Test) are the same exam and yield the same certificate. CB PET takes place in a specially equipped computer room, while PB PET is on paper.
IH Palermo is the Cambridge ESOL Local Examination Centre for the area of Palermo and its Province.
IH Palermo runs PET throughout the year (see dates above).

Passing PET certifies that you have an intermediate knowledge of the English Language (or B1 if we relate it to the European Language Portfolio).
Studying for PET is a popular way to improve your language skills and use them in a wide range of contexts. PET covers the four main language skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking, using material from real life situations. It provides evidence of practical skills, and indicates sufficient ability to be of practical use in clerical, secretarial and managerial jobs, and in many industries, such as tourism, where contact with English speakers is required.
If you are successful, you will receive a certificate from University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations. The certificate is recognised by employers in many countries, and recognised by universities in some countries as an initial qualification in English.
You will also receive a statement of results, showing how you have performed in each of the three papers.
This certification is internationally recognised and does not run out.

The exam consists of three parts: Reading & Writing, Listening and Speaking.
The oral test can take place on a different day of the written test. Two Cambridge appointed examiners interview you to verify your communicative abilities.
